HI003 Release: Tumble Adrift

Today, Wednesday September 30th marks the debut of Harlem & Irving’s third release entitled “Tumble Adrift” by label partner Bob Davies. Working under the project name pal:ndrøm, Tumble Adrift marks his first official release since Milwaukee’s Topscore USA label “Topscore EP” and Chicago/Portland’s Aesthetics label “Pulseprogramming - Tulsa For One Second Remix Project” remixes of early 2000’s.

Experimental in concept and execution, this long-form piece explores the idea of what it may sound like during an endless free fall through deep space. To achieve this, a single instrument was looped and programmed to pitch randomly — to tumble — then paired with heavily processed environmental recordings of a pre-COVID New York City. Perhaps best thought of now as auditory memory, this documentarian layer functions not to ground but rather the opposite — to drift. Captured to 4-track cassette and sprawling over nearly 84 minutes, Tumble Adrift is as much about time as it is space. Cassette listeners with pitch controlling capability are encouraged to discover the speed most inline with their own free fall hypotheses.

Available now on Bandcamp as limited edition cassette and digital download.
