HI005 Revision

Harlem & Irving is proud to present Revision by label partner Brian Kelly working under the moniker, Supplement. Spread over two tracks, the EP deepens Brian’s ideas of using sound to challenge and disrupt ‘the known’ and develop alternate ways of ‘knowing.’ The title track Revision begins with a whisper and quickly unfolds into layers of found sound, piano, percussion, and ethereal voices only to suddenly fall off a sonic cliff and slowly re-emerge from distorted sludge into a soothing lullaby of melodic and tonal guitars and pulses. Revisioned takes the warm source material of the title track and reworks it into something colder, distant, and urgent, with references to dub techno peaking through sheets of distortion and reverb. Vinyl and digital versions of Revision include a copy of the published essay, Revision: Composing an Aesthetics of Performance Pedagogy (Kelly & Wooda, 2016).* The essay details the development of Revision as part of a larger project to prioritize audio and video-based scholarship and teaching practices to disrupt traditional ways of learning and knowing.
